Today on the football field of Metalist stadium finished the works on laying turf. But the second phase of reconstruction is not finished yet.
The celebration on the occasion of opening the updated Metalist stadium in December last year, as it turned out, was only the first stage of reconstruction. During this time, UEFA requirements for the safety stadiums hosting Euro 2012 changed. Kharkiv had to make adjustments to the already realized project.
Aleksandr Yaroslavskyy, FC Metalist president:
I'm most worried about the finishing the stadium on time. All the UEFA comments... very little time... three years I live like on the front. Frankly, I would like to return home from the front.
One of building front lines - Metalist field. Specialists worked on the new covering for several months. The drainage system was replaced, the foundation for the lawn was laid following new technologies - ten centimeters of sand and ground mixtures. And the carpet itself was cut in Kyiv region and brought to Kharkiv.
Ivan Panchishin, head of field department:
We will have a great lawn. The root system of the lawn, grass - bluegrass monocultures. It can withstand very high temperatures and live at high temperatures.
Another innovation - additional exits from the stands - is almost ready. Now there`s work in premises. In one of the sectors there`re works on toilets - fans have been talking about them for a long time.
Vyacheslav Shevchenko, director of the RSC Metalist:
Toilets will be made on time. Installation is being inserted, tiles are being laid, toilets for men and women will be ready. The same concerns persons with disabilities.
Construction has a little more than a week before the first game of "yellow-blue" in their native town. Director of the stadium asserts that on July 23 we`ll certainly see football on Metalist.
