Vitaly Nedashkovsky, 34 years old. At the airport "Kharkiv" from the beginning of 2008. Before this he was finance director in the “Kaskad KMK”.
Until recently, Kharkiv airport was a very miserable object. The passengers were served in a small terminal, built a half century ago. But today there is work going. Special construction equipment work around the clock, and in the new terminal there are final preparations for the building opening. This happened after the issue of investment in the airport interested Aleksandr Yaroslavskyy. We contacted one of his top managers with the question, why do they need the Airport.
How did your company managed to become the operator of the airport?
In 2008, New Systems AM won the competition for the rental of a public utility - Kharkiv International Airport - and undertook to prepare it for Euro 2012. Our responsibilities include the development of investments given by DCH (owner Aleksandr Yaroslavskyy. - Ed.). Next 49 years we will be the operator of the airport. That is the responsibility for ground servicing of passengers and aircrafts is taken by our company. Profits are also ours, and we pay lease payments to the city.
What about investments?
Construction of the terminal began in August 2008 and conclude at the end of this year. After its commissioning, we will begin reconstruction of the old terminal. In the future it will be used for VIP-terminal. DCH is building a new terminal and restoring the old station square, purchasing of special transport, modernizing of the fuel-filling complex. That is, everything that does not concern the airfield zone, the investor took over, and by 2012 this would amount to 508 mln. Airfield part (about 1 bln.) is funded by the state.
What passenger capacity you expect?
We hope that passenger capacity will be much higher. In the area of coverage of our regional airport live 4,3 million potential passengers. If in 2008 the airport served about 350 thousand people, then in 2012 we plan to grow to 800 thousand According to our estimates, today around 500 thousand Kharkiv citizens a year use the services of the airport "Borispol" to fly abroad. This is our deferred demand.
Do you hope for the profit from Euro 2012?
Not really. Three or four days will only be peaks - three games in the group stage of the tournament. This is not a major impact on ridership. The idea of construction of the terminal is connected not so much with the preparations for Euro-2012, as with the growth of passenger traffic and, accordingly, of the investment attractiveness of the project. Demand for airports today is not satisfied. There are no high-quality services, there is no high level of service for passengers. Therefore, any major airline that cares about those who use its services, places demands to the airport. Finally, we can offer to foreign carriers a decent standard of service and comfort of their passengers.
